ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday received a telephone call from Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, during which the two leaders discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating recent talks between the United States and Iran.
During the warm and cordial conversation, Prime Minister Carney congratulated Pakistan’s leadership on its peace efforts that contributed to a temporary ceasefire and enabled the Islamabad Talks between Washington and Tehran.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while appreciating Canada’s endorsement and support, termed the US–Iran negotiations an important step toward regional peace.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continuing its efforts to encourage both sides to maintain the ceasefire and make meaningful progress toward de-escalation and stability.
The two leaders also exchanged views on bilateral relations and expressed their desire to enhance cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, clean energy, mining, and minerals, as well as to promote increased Canadian investment in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister reiterated his invitation to his Canadian counterpart to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient time.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on matters of mutual interest, reflecting the growing engagement between Islamabad and Ottawa.
