MOSCOW, Saturday, May 9, 2026 (WNP): President of Vladimir Putin and foreign leaders attending Victory Day celebrations on Saturday laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier following the military parade in Moscow.

The ceremony was held to honour Soviet soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War in the fight against Nazism.

Leaders participating in the commemorative events paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Soviet heroes who contributed to the liberation of humanity from Nazi rule during the war.

Addressing the parade marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Putin said the feat of the Soviet people in defeating Nazism would always be remembered.

“We will forever remember the feat of the Soviet people – who made the decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazism, saved their country and the world,” he said.

The floral tribute ceremony took place after the Victory Parade at Red Square marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Second World War.
