ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, April 1, 2026 (WNP): Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam has appreciated Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic efforts for de-escalation while raising critical questions regarding the ongoing regional situation and future course of negotiations.<\/p>\n
In a detailed statement, the envoy acknowledged the goodwill and \u201cgood offices\u201d of Pakistan in seeking to halt as US-Israeli aggression against Iran and restore peace and stability in the region. He said Iran welcomes Pakistan\u2019s proactive diplomatic initiatives, terming them constructive steps toward lasting stability.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The ambassador noted that efforts to revive diplomacy, end unjust and illegal aggression, and restore global confidence in international laws and norms were commendable. He emphasized that respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of states must remain central to any resolution.<\/p>\n
Referring to past developments, he criticized the United States\u2019 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, stating that the International Atomic Energy Agency had repeatedly verified Iran\u2019s compliance with its obligations.<\/p>\n
Reaffirming Iran\u2019s commitment to dialogue, he said the country had participated seriously in multiple rounds of negotiations despite facing attacks, adding that Iran has consistently preferred diplomatic and political solutions over conflict.<\/p>\n
He also cited remarks by Oman\u2019s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, who described peace as \u201cwithin reach,\u201d and UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, who termed Iran\u2019s proposals significant enough to avert escalation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Highlighting internal developments, the ambassador pointed to as unprecedented national unity and public mobilization, alongside the role of Iranian armed forces in defending the country\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n
The envoy said in the current circumstances \u2014 including diplomatic initiatives by friendly countries, public resolve, and military preparedness \u2014 several key questions arise that would determine the future trajectory of the situation.<\/p>\n
He questioned why Iran was targeted during ongoing negotiations, what factors led to escalation, and whether there exists genuine intent for a lasting diplomatic solution. He also raised concerns about continued military deployments in the region and whether renewed negotiations would lead to de-escalation or merely provide a pause before further confrontation.<\/p>\n
The ambassador emphasized that Iran seeks credible guarantees to avoid a repetition of as a pattern of \u201cconflict, ceasefire, talks, and renewed conflict,\u201d and questioned the reliability of assurances in future agreements.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
He further raised concerns about the broader dynamics influencing the conflict, including the role of key actors such as former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, particularly in the context of sustaining or resolving tensions.<\/p>\n
