ISLAMABAD, Sunday, May 4, 2025 : The Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Sunday conferred its prestigious \u2018Hamaray Heroes\u2019 award on 19-year-old international Taekwondo athlete Syed Abu Huraira Shah, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to martial arts and for raising Pakistan\u2019s flag on global sporting platforms.<\/p>\n
Huraira, who embarked on his Taekwondo journey at the age of 12, has represented Pakistan in multiple international tournaments across Asia and Europe, earning medals and acclaim in countries including Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and France.<\/p>\n
Among his notable achievements, he clinched a gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Open Taekwondo Championship, a bronze medal at the International Championship in France earlier this year, and additional bronze medals in Japan (2018) and Thailand (2019). He also secured a fifth-place finish at the Qatar Open in 2023 and participated in the Fujairah Open in the UAE in 2020.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media after receiving the award, Huraira expressed heartfelt gratitude to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab for their unwavering support.<\/p>\n
> \u201cThe Government of Sindh helped me secure sponsorships, and I dedicate this award to them. The Chief Minister has always backed athletes. His efforts in promoting sports across the province are truly commendable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition to national recognition, Huraira was also honoured abroad by the Mayor of Piossy, France, and was recently presented with an appreciation award by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori.<\/p>\n
Praising the PSL\u2019s \u2018Hamaray Heroes\u2019 initiative, the young athlete described the campaign as a vital effort to spotlight unsung sports personalities who continue to make Pakistan proud beyond mainstream arenas.<\/p>\n
> \u201cIt\u2019s a sport that requires discipline, dedication and heart,\u201d Huraira said. \u201cI hope my journey encourages more young Pakistanis to take up martial arts and show the world what we\u2019re capable of.\u201d<\/p>\n
