ISLAMABAD, Thursday, May 08, 2025 : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday held a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio amid rising tensions in South Asia, strongly condemning recent Indian missile and drone strikes that killed 31 civilians and injured 57 others.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, Shehbaz Sharif described the attacks as a \u201cflagrant violation of Pakistan\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity\u201d, warning that such provocations threaten peace and stability across the region.<\/p>\n
The prime minister expressed the deep anger and grief of the Pakistani nation over the \u201cunprovoked acts of war\u201d by India and reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s \u201cfirm resolve to defend its sovereignty at all costs.\u201d He emphasized that Pakistan retains the right to respond in self-defense, as enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.<\/p>\n
He also welcomed the expression of concern by U.S. President Donald Trump over the deteriorating security situation and urged greater international engagement to prevent further escalation.<\/p>\n
Secretary Rubio assured that the United States was closely monitoring developments and reiterated Washington\u2019s commitment to regional peace and stability. He emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation through dialogue and encouraged both Islamabad and New Delhi to maintain open lines of communication.<\/p>\n
