LAHORE, Wednesday, May 14, 2025 : Bangladesh\u2019s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, on Wednesday called for expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, culture, health, and education, while stressing the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists during a visit to the Lahore Press Club, the envoy highlighted the need to improve air and maritime connectivity to boost trade and foster deeper engagement between the two nations. He noted that enhancing cooperation in sectors like education, health, agriculture, and cultural exchange would bring long-term mutual benefits.<\/p>\n
\u201cBangladesh values its relationship with Pakistan, rooted in shared faith, common history, and cultural affinity,\u201d the high commissioner remarked. He emphasized the untapped potential in health tourism and noted increasing interest among Bangladeshi students in pursuing higher education at Pakistani universities.<\/p>\n
Addressing a key logistical challenge, Khan acknowledged the lack of direct flights between the two countries but expressed optimism that this would soon change. \u201cSome private companies are actively working to launch direct flight services, and we hope to share positive news with the public soon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The envoy described the current trajectory of Pakistan-Bangladesh ties as promising, citing a steady growth in trade and diplomatic engagement. He advocated for increased mutual investment, particularly in trade and industry, and expressed hope for stronger bilateral cooperation in the years to come.<\/p>\n
Responding to a question on the future of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), the high commissioner called for its revival, stating that all South Asian nations should benefit from shared infrastructure, trade opportunities, tourism, and regional cooperation in various sectors.<\/p>\n
Commenting on regional tensions, Khan underscored Bangladesh\u2019s commitment to peace, stating, \u201cWe are never in favour of border tensions. Issues must be resolved through dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n
Concluding his remarks, the high commissioner expressed his appreciation for Lahore\u2019s vibrant cultural heritage and economic dynamism. \u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to be in Lahore\u2014a city that reflects the spirit of the region\u2019s rich history and future potential,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
