ISLAMABAD, Friday, May 30, 2025 : The Government of Pakistan and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have agreed to deepen cooperation on climate-resilient initiatives aimed at addressing malnutrition and food insecurity in the country\u2019s most vulnerable regions.<\/p>\n
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, and WFP Country Director Coco Ushiyama in Islamabad on Friday.<\/p>\n
The discussions focused on Pakistan\u2019s five-year cooperation framework with the WFP, with particular attention to tackling child stunting\u2014an issue increasingly aggravated by the \u201c4Cs\u201d: climate change, conflict, the economic fallout from COVID-19, and governance challenges.<\/p>\n
Minister Malik emphasized the urgency of implementing proactive, outcome-driven programs that merge climate adaptation strategies with efforts to improve nutrition.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur partnership must deliver tangible climate benefits to communities, particularly in regions grappling with chronic food insecurity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to integrating climate resilience into Pakistan\u2019s national development agenda to ensure sustainable food security and better health outcomes for at-risk populations.<\/p>\n
The enhanced collaboration seeks to combine WFP\u2019s humanitarian expertise with Pakistan\u2019s climate policy priorities to mitigate the impact of environmental shocks on food systems and livelihoods.<\/p>\n
