WASHINGTON, Wednesday, June 18, 2025 : U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday credited Pakistan\u2019s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, with playing a pivotal role in averting a full-scale war between Pakistan and India last month, calling his efforts \u201cextremely influential\u201d in de-escalating the crisis from the Pakistani side.<\/p>\n
Speaking ahead of a luncheon meeting with Field Marshal Munir at the White House, President Trump underscored the gravity of the situation, noting that both nations possess nuclear capabilities.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThey were going at it, and both are nuclear countries,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThis man [Asim Munir] was extremely influential in stopping it from the Pakistani side. I stopped a war between two major nations.\u201d<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n
The comments followed Trump’s phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Trump reiterated that it was his intervention that helped defuse the tensions between the two South Asian neighbors, despite India\u2019s assertion that the ceasefire was a result of direct communication between New Delhi and Islamabad.<\/p>\n
