ISLAMABAD, Sunday, June 23, 2025 : Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam, in a strongly worded statement amid rising tensions in the Middle East, condemned the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran\u2019s nuclear sites, calling them a blatant violation of international law and a calculated attempt to destabilize the region on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Addressing an emergency press conference at the National Press Club on Sunday, Ambassador Moghadam held both the United States and the “Zionist regime” responsible for unprovoked aggression against Iran, accusing them of using Iran\u2019s peaceful nuclear program as a pretext for escalation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Zionist state operates essentially as an American military base in the Middle East,\u201d the ambassador said, emphasizing that Israel, despite not being a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), continues to target Iran \u2014 a state that abides by the treaty and is regularly inspected by international monitors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
He highlighted that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had on 15 separate occasions verified that Iran\u2019s nuclear activities were solely for peaceful purposes, including energy production. \u201cDespite these confirmations, Iranian nuclear scientists and commanders have been martyred in targeted strikes, violating not only Iran\u2019s sovereignty but also global norms,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Moghadam linked the attacks to Iran\u2019s firm stance against Israeli actions in Palestine and Gaza, stating, \u201cThis war is not only against Iran \u2014 it is a war against the entire Muslim world. But rest assured, we will emerge victorious.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
When asked about former U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s potential nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, the ambassador responded critically, saying, \u201cIt would be shocking if a man who supported the Zionist regime even on the two-state solution were honored with such a prize. Every U.S. president has dreamed of regime change in Iran, but that dream will never come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
Commenting on Iran\u2019s military response, the ambassador said Iran had retaliated using its indigenously developed missile systems. \u201cThe Zionist regime could not withstand even ten days of Iranian response,\u201d he asserted, describing the strikes as part of Iran\u2019s right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter.<\/p>\n
He praised Pakistan for its \u201cprincipled stance\u201d at the United Nations Security Council and expressed gratitude for the support extended by the government and political leadership of Pakistan. \u201cIran deeply appreciates the solidarity shown by the entire Muslim Ummah, including Pakistan,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
In response to a query regarding the reported meeting between Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, and Donald Trump, Ambassador Moghadam declined to comment, terming it a matter of bilateral relations between two sovereign states.<\/p>\n
He further noted that Iran\u2019s BRICS partners, including Russia and China, had condemned the Israeli strikes and reaffirmed support for Tehran. \u201cRussia has consistently backed Iran in all recent diplomatic engagements,\u201d he said, while confirming that Iran had not requested military assistance from any country so far.<\/p>\n
Touching on internal security, the ambassador disclosed that Iranian authorities had apprehended several individuals \u2014 including some Iranian nationals \u2014 involved in espionage activities. Drones and other surveillance equipment were reportedly recovered during the investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Nuclear Commission is currently assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the U.S. strikes to ensure that the Iranian people remain safe from any emergency fallout,\u201d he said, adding that Iran\u2019s peaceful nuclear efforts would continue unabated despite foreign aggression.<\/p>\n
