{"id":6244,"date":"2025-07-14T19:24:29","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T19:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wnp.com.pk\/?p=6244"},"modified":"2025-07-14T19:24:29","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T19:24:29","slug":"fao-japan-empower-over-half-a-million-flood-hit-pakistanis-with-resilient-farming-livestock-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/index.php\/2025\/07\/14\/fao-japan-empower-over-half-a-million-flood-hit-pakistanis-with-resilient-farming-livestock-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"FAO, Japan empower over half a million flood-hit Pakistanis with resilient farming, livestock aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD, Monday, July 14, 2025 : The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, with funding from the Government of Japan, has successfully wrapped up a major emergency support project that brought hope and recovery to over 520,000 people in flood-ravaged regions of Balochistan and Sindh.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Launched in response to the catastrophic 2022 floods, the $6.48 million project provided critical support to more than 74,000 households\u2014helping restore food production, protect livestock, and boost long-term resilience in some of Pakistan\u2019s most vulnerable rural communities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6247\" src=\"https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0.jpg 900w, https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0-768x491.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0-657x420.jpg 657w, https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0-150x96.jpg 150w, https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b6550475-436a-43bb-8c94-fa647b9e3af0-696x445.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The project\u2019s closing ceremony, held at the FAO office in Islamabad on Monday, brought together key partners, including Japan\u2019s Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi and FAO Representative Florence Rolle, alongside government and provincial representatives.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cJapan has always emphasized human security in our development cooperation,\u201d said Ambassador Akamatsu. \u201cThrough this project, we reaffirm our commitment to helping the people of Pakistan recover and rebuild in a sustainable way.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The multi-faceted intervention delivered seed and fertilizer packages to over 14,000 households, rehabilitated 1,500 hectares of agricultural land, and enabled the cultivation of wheat, rice, maize, and vegetables such as okra, brinjal, and tomatoes\u2014improving both food availability and incomes.<\/p>\n<p>Livestock recovery efforts benefited another 35,000 households, with FAO distributing animal feed, mineral blocks, poultry, and small ruminants.
