{"id":6293,"date":"2025-07-15T13:58:39","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T13:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wnp.com.pk\/?p=6293"},"modified":"2025-07-15T13:58:39","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T13:58:39","slug":"253-trees-for-253-heroes-tika-marks-turkiyes-democracy-day-with-symbolic-plantation-at-fatima-jinnah-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/index.php\/2025\/07\/15\/253-trees-for-253-heroes-tika-marks-turkiyes-democracy-day-with-symbolic-plantation-at-fatima-jinnah-park\/","title":{"rendered":"253 trees for 253 heroes: TIKA marks Turkiye\u2019s democracy day with symbolic plantation at Fatima Jinnah Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, July 15, 2025 : The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Tuesday planted 253 saplings at Fatima Jinnah Park in the federal capital &#8211; each symbolizing a life lost in the defense of democracy in a poignant tribute to the martyrs of the failed 2016 coup attempt in Turkiye.<\/p>\n<p>The tree plantation drive, held in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA), was organized to commemorate Turkiye\u2019s Democracy and National Unity Day, and drew the participation of Turkish Ambassador Dr. Irfan Neziroglu, diplomats, senior Pakistani officials, and members of civil society.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Despite the rainy weather, the ceremony resonated with a spirit of unity and shared resolve between the people of Turkiye and Pakistan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Welcoming the participants, TIKA Country Director Saliha Tuna expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who attended. \u201cWe are here today, alongside our Pakistani brothers and sisters, to honor the sacrifice of 253 martyrs who stood against tyranny and defended democracy,\u201d she said. \u201cThis plantation drive reflects the growing roots of our friendship and our shared values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Neziroglu described July 15, 2016, as a night of both terror and triumph. \u201cIt was a night that began in darkness but ended in the dawn of unity and the unshakable resolve of the Turkish people,\u201d he said. \u201cCitizens from all walks of life took to the streets, not with weapons, but with unwavering belief in democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recalling his own experience during the coup, Dr. Neziroglu shared, \u201cI was the Secretary General of the Turkish Parliament, and we were in session when it was bombed.
