ISLAMABAD, Monday, September 1, 2025 : Uzbekistan\u2019s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev on Monday celebrated the 34th anniversary of his country\u2019s independence, underscoring Uzbekistan\u2019s rapid economic growth under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and reaffirming deepening strategic ties with Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi was the chief guest at the reception, attended by diplomats, senior officials, business leaders, and members of the cultural community.<\/p>\n

In his address, the envoy described independence as the \u201cheartbeat of the Uzbek nation,\u201d symbolizing the aspirations of millions to live under their own flag. He noted that Uzbekistan is now advancing toward a \u201cThird Renaissance\u201d rooted in revival, progress, and modern development.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He highlighted robust economic achievements, stating that Uzbekistan\u2019s GDP has doubled in the past eight years, reaching $115 billion last year and projected to surpass $130 billion this year. Exports have risen to $26 billion, foreign reserves exceeded $48 billion, and nearly $130 billion in foreign investment has been attracted.<\/p>\n

He said 79 major projects worth $4 billion were launched on the eve of Independence Day, while over 5 million jobs were created this year alone – including the return of 700,000 workers from abroad. Tourism is also expanding, with over 10 million visitors generating $3 billion in revenues last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cUzbekistan is no longer just an exporter of raw materials. Our industrial output has more than doubled since 2017, supported by modern technologies and innovation,\u201d Ambassador Tukhtaev remarked. He also celebrated the historic achievement of Uzbekistan\u2019s national football team qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time.<\/p>\n

Turning to bilateral ties, the ambassador praised the strengthening of Pakistan\u2013Uzbekistan relations, calling them a \u201ctrue strategic partnership\u201d built on shared history, culture, and spirituality. He recalled Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s official visit to Tashkent in February, where both sides signed a landmark declaration and established the High Council of Strategic Partnership.<\/p>\n

Key joint initiatives include the Trans-Afghan Railway, which will help link Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan with South Asia, and rapidly expanding trade. Bilateral trade reached $404.5 million in 2024, while the first seven months of this year alone recorded $320 million – up 126 percent year-on-year.<\/p>\n

Uzbekistan has also eased visa rules for Pakistanis and launched direct flights between Tashkent and Islamabad, as well as Lahore. Business forums, cultural exchanges, and exhibitions in Pakistani cities have further deepened people-to-people ties.<\/p>\n

\u201cUzbekistan stands committed to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan in all fields – from trade and connectivity to culture and education,\u201d Ambassador Tukhtaev said, thanking the Pakistani government, diplomatic corps, business leaders, and media for their support.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The evening concluded with traditional Uzbek cuisine and music, offering guests a glimpse into the country\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
