NEW YORK, Friday, September 26, 2025 : Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s commitment to multilateralism and global peace.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, described as warm and cordial, the Prime Minister praised the Secretary-General\u2019s leadership in promoting peace and strengthening global governance, particularly by amplifying the voice of developing countries.<\/p>\n
He also expressed gratitude for Guterres\u2019 support following last year\u2019s devastating floods in Pakistan, stressing the urgent need for additional climate finance to help vulnerable countries cope with the impacts of climate change.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Shehbaz Sharif raised key issues of national and regional concern, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, and externally sponsored terrorism in Pakistan. He called for a just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue in line with UN Security Council resolutions and commended Guterres\u2019 efforts to defuse tensions between Pakistan and India.<\/p>\n
On the Middle East, the Prime Minister voiced grave concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, reiterating Pakistan\u2019s support for an immediate ceasefire, provision of relief aid, and a credible political path toward Palestinian statehood.<\/p>\n
He further underscored Pakistan\u2019s commitment to playing a constructive role as a UN Security Council member in advancing regional and international peace.<\/p>\n
