{"id":87130,"date":"2026-09-04T04:10:44","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T04:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/?p=87130"},"modified":"2026-09-05T04:49:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T04:49:09","slug":"turkiye-hails-pakistan-as-strategic-partner-backs-historic-makkah-joint-defence-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thediplomat.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/09\/04\/turkiye-hails-pakistan-as-strategic-partner-backs-historic-makkah-joint-defence-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"T\u00fcrkiye hails Pakistan as strategic partner, backs historic Makkah Joint Defence Agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Defence Minister Ya\u015far G\u00fcler praises Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic efforts for regional peace, says T\u00fcrkiye-Pakistan military cooperation is a key pillar of strategic partnership<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><strong>ANKARA, Friday, September 4, 2026 (WNP):<\/strong> Turkish National Defence Minister Ya\u015far G\u00fcler has described Pakistan as a strategic partner and inseparable part of T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s spiritual geography, reaffirming Ankara\u2019s commitment to deepening defence, security and broader cooperation with Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a reception in Ankara marking Pakistan Defence and Martyrs\u2019 Day, attended by the Turkish Armed Forces\u2019 senior command echelon, Minister G\u00fcler congratulated the people of Pakistan and paid tribute to the country\u2019s martyrs and veterans who sacrificed for its independence, sovereignty and security.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00fcler said relations between T\u00fcrkiye and Pakistan were rooted in shared historical memory, deep fraternal ties and unwavering mutual trust, with the two nations consistently standing by each other in times of both joy and adversity.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"T\u00fcrkiye hails Pakistan as strategic partner, backs historic Makkah Joint Defence Agreement\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kyL5PhxyArU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor us, Pakistan is not only a friendly country but an inseparable part of our spiritual geography, a strategic partner with whom we share the same ideals and values,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He noted that the longstanding brotherhood between the two countries had evolved into multidimensional cooperation encompassing diplomacy, defence and security, the economy, education and technology.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish Defence Minister said military cooperation remained one of the strongest pillars of the T\u00fcrkiye-Pakistan strategic partnership.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted the growing level of cooperation between the two armed forces through joint training activities and exercises, personnel exchange programmes and reciprocal sharing of experience, expressing satisfaction over the increasing solidarity and interoperability between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00fcler also thanked the Pakistan Army for organising a special reception in T\u00fcrkiye the previous week to mark T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s August 30 Victory Day, describing the gesture as a meaningful expression of brotherhood. He particularly acknowledged the contributions of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00fcler said T\u00fcrkiye and Pakistan carried important responsibilities not only for their own national security but also for promoting peace, stability and international security in their respective region and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>He particularly praised Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic initiatives aimed at preserving regional peace and stability, saying Islamabad\u2019s efforts to help end the conflict between Iran and the United States, secure a ceasefire and establish lasting peace had been closely observed in Ankara.<\/p>\n<p>He said Pakistan\u2019s hosting of meetings between the parties, its constructive efforts to halt hostilities and its broader diplomatic engagement had received leading role in such a critical matter,\u201d G\u00fcler said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Turkish Defence Minister welcomed the Joint Defence Agreement signed in Makkah between T\u00fcrkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, calling it a historic step that further institutionalises the deep-rooted ties and mutual confidence among the three countries.<\/p>\n<p>He said the agreement, based on the principle of collective deterrence, would strengthen common security, enhance military interoperability and further promote cooperation in the defence industry.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00fcler expressed confidence that the agreement would make a significant contribution to regional peace and stability.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee established under the Makkah defence framework had been held in T\u00fcrkiye during the week, with authorised representatives of the three countries participating.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting discussed the institutional structure of the
