Azerbaijan sends relief convoy to Iran carrying food, water, medicines

Date:

TEHRAN: The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev has ordered the dispatch of humanitarian assistance to Iran to help meet the urgent needs of the neighboring country’s population amid the ongoing regional crisis.

The announcement was made by Ali Alizada, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran and Permanent Representative to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), who said the aid shipment was sent following a telephone conversation between President Aliyev and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on March 8, 2026.

According to the ambassador, the humanitarian assistance was dispatched in response to the current needs of the Iranian people and reflects Azerbaijan’s solidarity with its neighboring and friendly country during a difficult time.

In line with the instructions of President Aliyev, the aid convoy was delivered to Iran through vehicles of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The shipment includes 10 tons of flour, 6 tons of rice, 2.4 tons of sugar, more than 4 tons of drinking water, around 600 kilograms of tea, and nearly 2 tons of medicines and medical supplies.

The assistance is intended to support affected communities and contribute to humanitarian relief efforts at a time when tensions and instability in the region have placed additional pressure on civilian populations.

Ambassador Alizada said the humanitarian initiative reflects the spirit of regional cooperation and the longstanding ties between Azerbaijan and Iran. He noted that Azerbaijan remains committed to supporting humanitarian efforts that help ease the suffering of civilians and strengthen solidarity among neighboring countries.

The delivery of humanitarian supplies highlights the importance of humanitarian diplomacy in times of crisis, with regional states increasingly stepping forward to provide relief and assistance to populations affected by conflict and instability.
