Putin arrives in Beijing for state visit, talks with Xi Jinping

Date:

BEIJING: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Wednesday night for a two-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping amid deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Russia-China Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation, as well as the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership.

According to Chinese and Russian officials, President Putin and President Xi are expected to hold extensive talks on bilateral relations, trade, energy cooperation, regional developments, and international issues of mutual concern.

The Kremlin said the two leaders would also discuss major economic and infrastructure projects, including energy cooperation and the proposed “Power of Siberia 2” gas pipeline aimed at expanding Russian gas exports to China.

President Putin described Russia-China relations as being at an “unprecedented level” of mutual trust and strategic coordination, saying both countries were prepared to support each other on issues related to sovereignty, security, and development.

Chinese officials said the visit would help further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Beijing and Moscow and contribute to regional and global stability.

Putin’s visit comes only days after US President Donald Trump concluded his own state visit to Beijing, highlighting China’s increasingly central role in global diplomacy and geopolitical engagement.

The Russian president was received at Beijing Capital International Airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and senior officials. Reports said the Russian delegation accompanying President Putin includes senior cabinet ministers, economic officials, and chief executives of major Russian state corporations.
