TEHRAN, Friday, July 3, 2026 (WNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday attended the funeral of the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Shaheed Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, at the invitation of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Iran during their time of national mourning.
The Prime Minister led a high-level Pakistani delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other senior government officials.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, members of Parliament, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also joined the Prime Minister in attending the funeral prayers.
Expressing profound grief over the passing of the Iranian leader, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the late Supreme Leader’s services to Islam and the Iranian nation, saying he had guided Iran for decades with exceptional wisdom, foresight and statesmanship.
The Prime Minister conveyed Pakistan’s heartfelt condolences to the new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and the brotherly people of Iran. He prayed for the elevation of the late leader’s ranks and for strength and patience for the bereaved nation.
Following the funeral ceremony, the Prime Minister signed the official condolence book, recording Pakistan’s sympathies and reaffirming the enduring bonds of brotherhood between the two neighboring countries.
In a post on his official X account, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he had conveyed the deepest condolences of the Government and people of Pakistan to the Government and the brotherly people of Iran.
“The late Supreme Leader’s wisdom, leadership and profound influence on Iran and the wider region will be remembered for generations,” the Prime Minister wrote.
He said he was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, senior parliamentarians including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, as well as senior federal ministers and government officials.
“As a brotherly neighbour, Pakistan stands with Iran in this time of grief,” the Prime Minister added.
After attending the funeral and condolence ceremonies in Tehran, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Istanbul to continue his official visit to Türkiye.
