NEW YORK, Wednesday, January 14, 2026 (WNP): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, held a meeting with Ms. Mari Yamashita, Deputy Head of Mission of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA), to discuss the evolving situation in Yemen and ongoing UN efforts to promote peace and stability in the conflict-affected country.

DURING THE MEETING, THE TWO SIDES EXCHANGED VIEWS ON THE SECURITY AND HUMANITARIAN CONDITIONS IN YEMEN, WITH PARTICULAR FOCUS ON THE ROLE OF UNMHA IN SUPPORTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE HUDAYDAH AGREEMENT AND PREVENTING FURTHER ESCALATION OF HOSTILITIES.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar underscored Pakistan’s strong support for UN-led initiatives aimed at de-escalation, political dialogue and the protection of civilians.

Ms. Yamashita briefed the Pakistani envoy on UNMHA’s current mandate, operational challenges and efforts to facilitate confidence-building measures among Yemeni parties. She highlighted the importance of sustained international engagement to preserve fragile calm in and around the port city of Hudaydah, which remains critical for humanitarian access.

Both sides emphasized the need for a comprehensive and inclusive political settlement, stressing that lasting peace in Yemen can only be achieved through dialogue, respect for international law and continued commitment by all stakeholders to the UN-facilitated peace process.
