First Lady Aseefa backs free clubfoot treatment drive, pledges support to eradicate disability

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, January 20, 2026 (WNP): First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday held a meeting with Dr. Musavi, Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Humanitarian Health Foundation (PHHF), to review ongoing initiatives providing free treatment for children born with clubfoot, a correctable congenital condition that can lead to lifelong disability if left untreated.

During the meeting, Dr. Musavi briefed the First Lady on the foundation’s work in Sindh, where more than 252 children have already received successful treatment, restoring mobility and improving quality of life for affected families. The First Lady appreciated the dedication of PHHF’s medical teams and described the initiative as a transformative intervention for child health and social inclusion.

ASEEFA BHUTTO ZARDARI EMPHASIZED THAT EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TIMELY TREATMENT OF CLUBFOOT CAN PREVENT PERMANENT DISABILITY, REDUCE SOCIAL STIGMA AND ENABLE CHILDREN TO LEAD INDEPENDENT AND PRODUCTIVE LIVES.

She reaffirmed her full support for expanding the programme, with the goal of ensuring that no child in Pakistan suffers from preventable physical impairment due to lack of access to healthcare.

The First Lady also stressed the importance of public awareness, community outreach and collaboration with provincial health departments to scale up services, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening partnerships between public institutions and non-profit organizations to eradicate clubfoot as a disability in Pakistan, reflecting a broader focus on child welfare, inclusive healthcare and social justice.
