DPM/FM voices concern over ceasefire violations and loss of life in Gaza; condemns settlement activity and settler violence in Occupied West Bank
NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday expressed serious concern over continued ceasefire violations and the loss of lives in Gaza, calling for the full implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Eight Arab-Islamic Countries in New York, held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, DPM/FM Dar strongly condemned continued illegal settlement activities and settler violence in the Occupied West Bank.
He also called for rejecting any attempts to undermine the historical status of the holy sites, stressing the need to preserve their established status.
Senator Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of full implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and UNSC Resolution 2803 as part of efforts to address the situation and advance peace in the region.
The DPM/FM reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and reaffirmed the country’s position in favour of a sovereign, independent and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The meeting brought together foreign ministers of eight Arab and Islamic countries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss developments concerning Gaza and the wider regional situation. A joint statement by the participating countries also stressed the need to preserve the ceasefire, ensure humanitarian assistance reaches Gaza and advance implementation of the peace plan.
Dar’s participation reflected Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement on the Palestinian issue at the United Nations and its emphasis on peaceful efforts to address the crisis and support Palestinian statehood.
