Naqvi warns of war risk in second urgent meeting with U.S. envoy over Indian drone strikes

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Friday, May 09, 2025 : Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a key diplomatic development amid rising regional tensions, held a second high-level meeting within 48 hours with the United States Chargé d’Affaires, Natalie Baker, to discuss the escalating hostilities with India, particularly along the shared borders on Friday.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi conveyed Pakistan’s deep concerns over what he called India’s “repeated and blatant violations of international law,” accusing New Delhi of launching drone strikes targeting civilian areas inside Pakistani territory.

“India has brazenly breached international norms by using drones to target civilian populations,” Naqvi told the acting U.S. envoy. He added that Pakistan’s armed forces had responded swiftly and effectively, shooting down dozens of hostile drones in recent days.

The minister squarely blamed India for fueling instability in the region, warning that New Delhi’s actions had pushed South Asia — home to two nuclear-armed nations — perilously close to open conflict.

“The region stands at the edge of war. Pakistan will not tolerate any compromise on its national security,” he asserted.

Also present at the meeting was U.S. Political Counselor Zack Harkinrider, underscoring Washington’s growing concern over the rapidly worsening security environment in the subcontinent.

The back-to-back meetings with senior U.S. officials highlight Islamabad’s urgent diplomatic outreach as tensions continue to rise, prompting alarm in global capitals over the potential fallout of another armed confrontation between Pakistan and India.
