ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, June 4 : Pakistani security forces have killed 14 militants affiliated with an Indian-sponsored terrorist group during an intelligence-based operation in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on June 2 and 3 following credible intelligence regarding the presence of members of Fitna al Khawarij, a militant group allegedly backed by Indian intelligence.
During the operation, a fierce exchange of fire took place in which all 14 militants were neutralized. “The security forces effectively engaged the terrorists’ hideout, eliminating the threat after intense combat,” the ISPR said, adding that post-operation clearance was underway to ensure no further threats remained in the area.
The military reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism, particularly elements allegedly sponsored by hostile foreign entities.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the successful operation and lauded the professionalism and bravery of the armed forces.
In separate statements, both leaders reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism in all its forms. President Zardari said the operations against terrorists would continue until their complete elimination, expressing confidence in the armed forces’ determination to root out all threats to national security.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the militants as “enemies of humanity” and stressed that their “nefarious designs” would be decisively defeated. He reiterated the government’s full support for the security forces in their ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.
