SDPI earns Commonwealth accreditation, joining global network of influential policy institutions

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Friday, July 11, 2025 : The Commonwealth Secretariat has formally accredited Pakistan’s Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) as an official Accredited Organization of the Commonwealth, a distinction that affirms the think tank’s growing influence in global policy discourse.

The recognition, announced by the Commonwealth Secretariat at Marlborough House in London, positions SDPI among a select group of institutions across the 56 member countries that support the Commonwealth’s mission to promote democracy, development, and international cooperation.

This accreditation underscores SDPI’s longstanding commitment to evidence-based policy research, inclusive dialogue, and sustainable development—both in Pakistan and across the Global South.

As an Accredited Organization, SDPI will now have enhanced access to engage with the Commonwealth Secretariat, participate in high-level policy discussions, and collaborate with other member organizations on pressing global challenges such as climate action, economic resilience, governance reform, education, and peacebuilding.

Reacting to the development, SDPI Executive Director Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri said, “This accreditation is a testament to SDPI’s impactful work over the past three decades. It reaffirms our role as a credible platform for policy innovation, South-South cooperation, and global engagement. We look forward to contributing more actively to the Commonwealth’s shared vision of a fairer, more resilient, and more prosperous future.”

The accreditation also grants SDPI access to key Commonwealth forums, including the upcoming Secretary-General’s Welcome Dialogue with Accredited Organisations, set to be held on July 15 in London.

Established in 1992, SDPI continues to act as a critical bridge between research and policy, and this latest recognition marks a significant milestone in its mission to drive sustainable development through informed, collaborative partnerships.
