ISLAMABAD, Monday, July 21, 2025 : Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins on Monday met to discuss expanding bilateral collaboration in the energy and mining sectors, with a particular focus on investment, technology transfer, and skills development in a significant push toward enhancing economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening energy security and welcomed Australia’s expertise in renewable energy and advanced mining technologies. He urged Australian companies to tap into the emerging investment landscape of Pakistan’s energy sector.
“Australia’s capabilities in mining and renewables align perfectly with our national priorities,” Malik said. “We invite Australian investors to explore Pakistan’s vast potential, particularly in mineral-rich regions.”
High Commissioner Hawkins lauded Pakistan’s recent economic turnaround under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, citing improvements in the current account balance and profit repatriation mechanisms, which he said have boosted the confidence of foreign investors and multinational firms.
Highlighting growing interest from Australian mining companies, Hawkins proposed establishing collaborative training initiatives between Australian universities, mining firms, and Pakistani institutions. “This initiative will help build local technical capacity and support sustainable growth in Pakistan’s mining industry,” he noted.
Malik welcomed the proposal, calling it a strategic opportunity to modernize Pakistan’s mining sector. “We value Australia’s advanced mining capabilities and are fully committed to facilitating joint ventures that contribute to economic growth and skills development,” he said.
Both sides agreed to enhance institutional linkages, encourage joint ventures, and explore avenues for mutual economic advancement in energy and mining. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen ties through long-term, sustainable cooperation that benefits both nations.
