ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, July 23, 2025 : Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in Pakistan-United Kingdom bilateral relations, particularly in trade, aviation, and multilateral cooperation.

During a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at the Prime Minister’s House, the premier termed the recently held trade talks between the two nations as a gateway to mutually beneficial opportunities. He also welcomed the UK government’s decision to resume Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to and from Britain—calling it a relief for the British-Pakistani community and a boost to people-to-people connections.

The prime minister praised Marriott’s personal efforts in facilitating the restoration of direct flights and appreciated the UK’s constructive role in promoting regional stability. He specifically acknowledged London’s support in de-escalating tensions during the Pakistan-India standoff, reiterating Islamabad’s openness to a meaningful dialogue with New Delhi on all outstanding issues.

On multilateral engagement, Shehbaz noted the two countries’ close coordination at the United Nations Security Council, where Pakistan currently holds the rotating presidency.

He also extended his warm regards to King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing eagerness to engage with the UK leadership during his planned visit later this year.

High Commissioner Marriott, in turn, briefed the prime minister on her recent consultations in London, highlighting renewed interest in strengthening Pakistan-UK ties. She commended the government’s economic performance over the past 18 months, noting visible progress in key macroeconomic indicators under Prime Minister Shehbaz’s leadership.
