Pakistan, Saudi Arabia sign ‘Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement’ pledging any aggression against either country to be considered against both

RIYADH, Wednesday, September 17, 2025 : Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Wednesday signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, pledging that any aggression against either country would be considered an aggression against both.

The agreement, signed at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh during Shehbaz Sharif’s state visit, underscores the two nations’ shared commitment to regional stability, enhanced defense cooperation, and collective deterrence.

“This agreement reflects the shared commitment of both nations to enhance their security and contribute to peace in the region and the world,” a joint statement said. “Any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both.”

Building on nearly eight decades of close partnership, the pact reaffirms the historic bonds of brotherhood, Islamic solidarity, and shared strategic interests between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

The signing ceremony followed an official round of talks attended by delegations from both sides. At the outset, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended warm greetings to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Saudi leadership. He conveyed Pakistan’s best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the Kingdom.

In return, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed his warm wishes for the prime minister’s health and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership with Pakistan.

The agreement is expected to deepen cooperation in defense, training, joint deterrence, and security, while signaling a strong message of solidarity in the face of regional and global challenges.
