WASHINGTON: The U.S. President Donald Trump received a prayer inside the Oval Office during a gathering of religious leaders at the White House, in an event that highlighted the role of faith in American public life.
According to reports and footage circulating on social media, several Christian faith leaders surrounded Trump inside the Oval Office and offered a prayer seeking divine guidance, protection and wisdom for the country’s leadership amid ongoing global tensions and domestic political debates.
Participants placed their hands on the president while delivering a prayer, asking for strength, unity and peace for the United States during a challenging period for the nation and the world.
The moment, which was recorded and widely shared online, drew attention across political and religious circles, with supporters describing it as a reflection of America’s long-standing tradition of invoking faith in public leadership. Critics, however, debated the intersection of religion and politics in the country’s governance.
Public prayers and religious observances have historically been part of American political culture, with presidents and national leaders frequently hosting clergy members and participating in prayer events during times of national importance or crisis.
The gathering comes as the United States continues to face heightened international tensions in the Middle East and ongoing domestic political polarization, issues that many faith leaders say require spiritual reflection alongside political decision-making.
Observers note that such events illustrate the continued influence of religious communities in American political life, where expressions of faith by national leaders often resonate strongly with large segments of the population.
