Russia delivers 313 tonnes of medical aid to Iran via Azerbaijan

Date:

MOSCOW: Russia has delivered a major shipment of humanitarian assistance to Iran, with 313 tonnes of medicines transported on Friday under the direction of President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) announced.

According to official statements, the delivery marks the second large-scale consignment of medical supplies sent by Russia to Iran in recent weeks, aimed at supporting civilians affected by the ongoing regional crisis.

The shipment was carried out with logistical assistance from Azerbaijan, which served as a key transit route for the aid. The supplies were transferred across the Azerbaijani-Iranian border and handed over to Iranian authorities for onward distribution among affected populations.

The latest consignment significantly expands earlier humanitarian efforts. Earlier this month, Russia had dispatched smaller shipments of medical aid via Azerbaijan, also under presidential instructions, as part of its ongoing support to Iran’s healthcare sector strained by the conflict.

Officials said the delivery underscores continued coordination between Moscow and regional partners to facilitate humanitarian assistance despite challenging security conditions.

The aid is expected to help address urgent medical needs in Iran, where hospitals and emergency services have been under increasing pressure due to the ongoing hostilities.
