Indian media questions diplomatic posture as Pakistan gains global attention

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Thursday, April 09, 2026 (WNP): A growing debate within Indian media over the country’s diplomatic positioning has intensified, with senior journalist Palki Sharma sharply criticizing New Delhi’s “diplomatic blind spot” amid rapidly shifting geopolitical dynamics.

In a strongly worded commentary, Sharma pointed to recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who credited Pakistan’s leadership for its role in de-escalating tensions related to the Iranian conflict.

She said the development underscores a significant shift in global perceptions, with Pakistan “suddenly occupying the global centre stage” and being “actively rebranded” as a “net stability provider.”

Questioning the implications for India, Sharma noted that New Delhi had long projected itself as the region’s “net security provider,” but warned that this standing now appears to be eroding. “Today we are losing that title. We are looking increasingly isolated, sidelined in the very international arena we claim to lead,” she remarked.

She further criticized India’s diplomatic establishment, saying it had been “caught sleeping” as regional narratives shift, adding that the country risks being left behind in an evolving geopolitical landscape.

Analysts view such commentary as a clear reflection of Pakistan’s growing diplomatic relevance and effectiveness, as its proactive engagement gains recognition even within segments of Indian media, underscoring Islamabad’s rising profile as a key contributor to regional peace and stability.

The remarks come at a time when intensified diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East have drawn global attention, with Pakistan increasingly being seen as playing a constructive and stabilizing role. This evolving perception highlights Islamabad’s expanding influence, shaped by sustained diplomatic outreach and its commitment to promoting dialogue and conflict resolution.
