Italian PM Giorgia Meloni lauds Pakistan’s diplomatic role in US–Iran ceasefire, supports Islamabad peace initiative

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni, on Thursday, during which both leaders discussed regional peace efforts and bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Meloni appreciated Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts in facilitating the U.S.–Iran ceasefire and the resumption of dialogue. She also felicitated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on hosting the forthcoming peace negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad.

Underscoring Pakistan’s “genuine and sincere desire” for peace and stability in the region, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Prime Minister Meloni, endorsing Pakistan’s peace initiatives.

Both leaders also expressed serious concern over the ongoing hostilities in Lebanon and agreed on the need for coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation. They emphasized that sustained diplomacy was essential to pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Italy relations and continuing close cooperation on matters of mutual interest, particularly at multilateral fora.
