Pakistan, key Muslim countries condemn Israel’s move on ‘Somaliland’

Date:

ISLAMABAD: Foreign ministers from Pakistan and several Muslim-majority countries have strongly condemned Israel’s announcement regarding the appointment of a diplomatic representative to the so-called “Somaliland,” terming it a violation of international law and Somalia’s sovereignty.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Türkiye, Indonesia and Kuwait expressed their “strongest condemnation” of the move, describing it as a “flagrant violation” of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

The ministers reaffirmed their unequivocal rejection of all unilateral actions that undermine the unity of states or infringe upon their sovereignty. They reiterated their firm support for Somalia’s unity and its legitimate state institutions as the sole representative of the will of the Somali people.

The joint statement further emphasized that such actions contravene the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, warning that they set a dangerous precedent that could destabilize the Horn of Africa.

The ministers cautioned that such developments risk undermining regional peace and security, calling for respect for international norms and the sovereignty of states.

The statement was issued from Islamabad and reflects a coordinated diplomatic stance among participating countries on the issue.
