Govt establishes independent ‘National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, April 22, 2025 : The government has formally launched the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) as an independent institution, granting it full authority to investigate and act against cyber-related offenses nationwide in a major step to combat the growing threat of cybercrime.

Previously operating under the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as its Cyber Crime Wing, the unit has been elevated to an autonomous body amid a surge in online fraud, harassment, digital blackmail, identity theft, and social media-related offenses.

According to an FIA spokesperson, all responsibilities concerning the prevention, investigation, and enforcement of cybercrimes will now be managed exclusively by the NCCIA. As part of this transition, the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing has been officially dissolved, and citizens are urged to contact the NCCIA for all cybercrime-related complaints and queries.

The newly established agency is mandated to respond swiftly to reports of suspicious online activities and cyber offenses. Citizens can reach the NCCIA Helpdesk by phone at 051-9106691 or via email at helpdesk@nr3c.gov.pk.

“It is important to note that the FIA is no longer responsible for handling cybercrime matters,” the spokesperson said, advising the public to visit the nearest NCCIA Circle Office for assistance or to file complaints.

The establishment of the NCCIA is expected to streamline operations, enhance responsiveness, and bolster Pakistan’s capability to address digital threats in an increasingly interconnected world.
