Zelenskyy says new diplomatic momentum offers fresh opportunity for peace in Ukraine

Date:

KYIV, Saturday, January 3, 2026 (WNP): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday said renewed diplomatic engagement with international partners has created a fresh opportunity to bring an end to the war, following high-level discussions with national security advisers from the Coalition of the Willing member states.

President Zelenskyy said a series of three panels were held involving Ukraine’s negotiating team and representatives from 18 countries and international institutions. The discussions focused on key pillars of a sustainable peace, including security guarantees for Ukraine, post-war reconstruction, and the development of a basic framework for a credible and lasting settlement.

He said the meetings included a detailed review of all existing draft documents and an in-depth examination of the sequencing of next steps in the diplomatic process. According to the outlined schedule, a meeting of chiefs of general staff is set to take place on January 5, followed by a leaders-level meeting in Paris on January 6. Zelenskyy added that these engagements are expected to pave the way for a productive joint meeting with representatives of the United States.

“NOW WE HAVE A NEW WAVE, A NEW CHANCE TO FINISH THIS WAR,” THE UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT SAID, EXPRESSING OPTIMISM ABOUT THE RENEWED DIPLOMATIC MOMENTUM.

Zelenskyy also underscored the importance of international solidarity, thanking partner countries and their leaders for their continued and consistent support for Ukraine on the diplomatic front.

“We are not alone on the path of diplomacy,” he said, reaffirming Ukraine’s commitment to pursuing peace through coordinated international efforts.
