Pakistan, Iran reaffirm commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation as envoys exchange New Year messages

ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, January 6, 2026 (WNP): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, to review the state of bilateral relations and discuss avenues for deepening cooperation.

DURING THE MEETING, THE IRANIAN AMBASSADOR CONVEYED NEW YEAR GREETINGS FROM IRAN’S FOREIGN MINISTER ABBAS ARAGHCHI AND HANDED OVER A FORMAL LETTER ADDRESSED TO SENATOR DAR.

The deputy prime minister warmly reciprocated the greetings and extended his best wishes for the New Year to the Iranian leadership and people.

Ambassador Moghaddam briefed the deputy prime minister on progress achieved under various bilateral institutional mechanisms, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation across a wide range of sectors. The discussion covered existing frameworks aimed at strengthening political, economic, and regional collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.

REAFFIRMING PAKISTAN’S COMMITMENT TO FURTHER EXPANDING ENGAGEMENT WITH IRAN, SENATOR DAR UNDERSCORED ISLAMABAD’S DESIRE TO ADVANCE COOPERATION IN KEY PRIORITY AREAS OF MUTUAL INTEREST.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral ties and agreed to continue close coordination through established diplomatic channels.

The meeting reflected the shared resolve of Pakistan and Iran to consolidate their neighbourly relations and pursue closer cooperation in support of regional stability and mutual prosperity.
