PM Shehbaz, IMF chief discuss Pakistan’s reform momentum, economic stability at Davos

DAVOS: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday met Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to review Pakistan’s economic reform trajectory and prospects for sustained stability.

During the meeting, the prime minister briefed the IMF chief on improvements in Pakistan’s key macroeconomic indicators, ongoing stabilization efforts, and progress on institutional reforms. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fiscal discipline, revenue mobilization, and structural reforms aimed at achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA ACKNOWLEDGED PAKISTAN’S REFORM EFFORTS AND APPRECIATED THE STEPS TAKEN TO STABILIZE THE ECONOMY. SHE UNDERSCORED THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING REFORM MOMENTUM TO ENSURE LONG-TERM ECONOMIC RESILIENCE, PARTICULARLY IN THE FACE OF GLOBAL ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTIES.

Both sides also exchanged views on the global economic outlook, challenges confronting emerging economies, and the critical role of multilateral cooperation in safeguarding financial stability and supporting growth.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.

The engagement underscored Pakistan’s ongoing dialogue with international financial institutions as the country seeks to consolidate economic recovery and position itself for sustainable long-term growth.
