Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrives in Islamabad on two-day state visit, signals new momentum in Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations

ISLAMABAD: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived in Islamabad on Thursday on a two-day state visit to Pakistan, marking a significant step toward further strengthening bilateral ties between the two brotherly countries.

The Uzbek leader’s visit, undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, was marked by a red-carpet reception at Nur Khan Airbase, reflecting the importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with Uzbekistan. President Mirziyoyev arrived aboard a special aircraft, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior cabinet ministers and prominent business leaders.

Upon arrival, President Mirziyoyev was warmly received by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, underscoring the high level of mutual respect and the growing warmth in Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar were also present on the occasion.

DURING HIS STAY, PRESIDENT MIRZIYOYEV IS SCHEDULED TO HOLD WIDE-RANGING TALKS WITH THE PAKISTANI LEADERSHIP, FOCUSING ON ENHANCING COOPERATION IN KEY AREAS INCLUDING TRADE, INVESTMENT, ENERGY, CONNECTIVITY, DEFENCE, AND PEOPLE-TO-PEOPLE EXCHANGES.

The visit is also expected to yield important agreements aimed at deepening collaboration in economic, cultural, and regional connectivity initiatives.

The state visit comes at a time when both Pakistan and Uzbekistan are actively seeking to expand regional linkages and strengthen economic partnerships, particularly in Central and South Asia. Officials on both sides have expressed optimism that the high-level engagement will inject new momentum into bilateral relations and contribute to shared goals of regional peace, stability, and sustainable development.
