New Kaaba Kiswa enters final production stage ahead of annual replacement

Date:

MAKKAH: The final stages of producing the new Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba have been completed at the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa in Makkah, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to serving the Two Holy Mosques through advanced technology and highly skilled craftsmanship.

Head of the Department for Assembling and Sewing the Kaaba Kiswa, Salah Al-Sulami, said the production process begins with the preparation of a white cotton inner lining covering all four sides of the Holy Kaaba. The lining is then integrated with specially embroidered black silk panels adorned with Quranic verses, Islamic inscriptions and decorative motifs.

Al-Sulami explained that each silk panel measures approximately 14 meters in length and one meter in width. The panels are carefully assembled to form the complete Kiswa using sophisticated sewing techniques and advanced production systems.

He noted that the assembly stage is carried out using one of the largest sewing machines dedicated to the production of the Kaaba Kiswa, making it among the longest specialized sewing machines of its kind in the world.

According to Al-Sulami, the machine is equipped with advanced laser-guided control technology that accurately directs needle and thread movements during the stitching process, ensuring exceptional precision and alignment throughout the assembly of the Kiswa.

He said the use of modern technology allows all components of the Kiswa to be joined with the highest degree of accuracy and consistency, resulting in a final product that meets the finest standards of quality, excellence and craftsmanship.

The annual production of the Kaaba Kiswa represents one of the most significant artistic and religious undertakings in the Islamic world, combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to create a covering befitting Islam’s holiest site.

Saudi Arabia continues to invest in preserving and enhancing the centuries-old tradition of producing the Kiswa, ensuring that every stage of its manufacture reflects the sanctity and prestige of the Holy Kaaba while maintaining the highest international standards of workmanship.
