Pakistan’s Army Chief, Interior Minister visit Iran to advance efforts for peace in US-Iran conflict

Field Marshal Asim Munir holds high-level talks with Iranian leadership on de-escalation, Strait of Hormuz reopening and negotiated settlement

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, along with Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, concluded a day-long visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help break the stalemate in the ongoing US-Iran conflict and explore avenues for an enduring peace and a lasting end to instability in the region.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir held high-level meetings with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Representative of the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

The discussions focused comprehensively on measures to prevent further escalation of the conflict, facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and expedite an end to the ongoing hostilities.

The two sides also exchanged views on the broader regional security situation, prospects for peace and possible pathways towards a negotiated settlement of outstanding disputes.

The Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue, promoting de-escalation and contributing to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Upon arrival in Iran, Field Marshal Asim Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, along with other senior Iranian civil and military officials.

Pakistan’s high-level engagement with the Iranian leadership reflects Islamabad’s continued emphasis on dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation as essential means of addressing regional crises and restoring peace and stability.
