Polling Station No. 8250 closes after smooth voting; observers report no violations of voting procedures
ISLAMABAD: Polling Station No. 8250 at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Pakistan closed on Sunday after 130 people cast their ballots in the elections for deputies to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Those who voted included heads and staff of the Russian Embassy and Trade Mission, their family members, as well as Russian citizens residing in or temporarily staying in Pakistan, according to the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan.
Two observers appointed by the Civic Chamber of Russia were present at the polling station. They reported that voting proceeded smoothly and in accordance with the required procedures.
Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, who chaired the Precinct Election Commission, said the embassy had taken additional measures to facilitate voting amid traffic restrictions in Islamabad.
He said the embassy, in close coordination with Pakistani authorities, took steps to inform Russian citizens about the voting arrangements and provided convenient transportation to the polling station.
“Every effort was made to ensure that Russian citizens living in Islamabad and the surrounding areas could exercise their right to vote,” Khorev said.
Olga Starkova, an observer from the Civic Chamber of Russia, commended the work of the election commission at the Russian Embassy in Islamabad and said no violations of voting procedures had been identified.
Another observer, Natalia Zhilina, said the voting process proceeded calmly, with all necessary procedures duly followed. She also noted the responsible approach demonstrated by both the organisers and voters.
The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan thanked all Russian citizens who exercised their right to vote in the State Duma elections and said their participation demonstrated a strong sense of civic responsibility.
The polling station had opened earlier on Sunday to facilitate Russian citizens aged 18 and above residing or temporarily staying in Pakistan. Ambassador Khorev was among those who cast their ballots at the beginning of the voting process.
The embassy concluded its message with the slogan: “Your vote is Russia’s strength!”
