TİKA provides agricultural support to flood-affected farmers in Pakistan

Date:

37.5 tonnes of wheat seed and fertilizer distributed among 500 farming families in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), in collaboration with the Turkish Red Crescent and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), has provided agricultural assistance to 500 smallholder farming families affected by floods and flash floods in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the initiative, a total of 37.5 tonnes of agricultural inputs, comprising 25 tonnes of certified wheat seed and 12.5 tonnes of DAP fertilizer, were distributed among affected farming families in Ghizer District of Gilgit-Baltistan and Neelum Valley of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Each beneficiary family received 50 kilograms of certified wheat seed and 25 kilograms of DAP fertilizer to support the upcoming wheat-growing season and help restore agricultural production.

The distribution was carried out through field coordination between the Turkish Red Crescent and PRCS across 20 settlements, including nine in Ghizer and 11 in Neelum Valley.

Despite challenging mountainous terrain and difficult access conditions, relief teams successfully reached 250 farming families in each region, providing them with essential agricultural inputs.

The beneficiaries included farmers whose farmland, crops and livelihoods were affected by the major floods of 2025, as well as smaller-scale floods and flash floods recorded during 2026.

The assistance aims to enable affected farmers to prepare for the new wheat-growing season in a timely manner and resume agricultural activities, helping restore livelihoods disrupted by successive climate-related disasters.

In addition to providing immediate agricultural assistance, the project included technical guidance for farmers on climate-resilient agricultural practices, disaster-risk reduction and sustainable production methods.

The initiative seeks not only to address the immediate agricultural needs of flood-affected communities but also to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable farming families against future climate-related disasters and support more sustainable agricultural production in affected areas.
