ISLAMABAD: Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker has praised Pakistan’s warmth, hospitality and rich cultural traditions, saying her experience in the country has extended far beyond diplomatic engagements.

Speaking during an informal conversation over a cup of Pakistani chai, Baker shared her appreciation for various aspects of Pakistani life, including its people, cuisine, cricket and wedding traditions.

She said she enjoys spending her free time with friends and exploring different parts of Pakistan. Baker also revealed that she has become a fan of cricket during her stay in the country.

“I’m still learning the rules, but I try to get out to the stadium as much as I can to cheer for the Pakistan national team,” she said.

Highlighting what she believes Americans should know more about Pakistan, Baker pointed to the country’s hospitality and welcoming nature.

“Pakistanis are so warm and inviting to anyone who comes into the country. They really make you feel at home, like you’re with family,” she remarked.

Discussing food, Baker named palak paneer and dal among her favorite Pakistani dishes, while also expressing her fondness for chai, pakoras and traditional desserts.

When asked which American food Pakistanis should try, she recommended breakfast tacos from her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, as well as Texas-style barbecue.

Baker also described Pakistani weddings as one of her favorite cultural traditions.

“I love Pakistani weddings. From the mehndi to the baraat to the walima, it’s just a magical series of events,” she said.

Having attended several weddings during her posting in Pakistan, she praised the vibrant atmosphere and elaborate celebrations.

“The brides are so beautiful. They’re like princesses, and everyone around them is so happy and vibrant,” she added.

Baker’s remarks offered a glimpse into her personal experiences in Pakistan, underscoring the cultural connections and people-to-people ties that complement diplomatic relations between the two countries.
