PM Shehbaz urges UK to join neutral probe into Pahalgam incident, rejects India’s baseless allegations

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Monday, May 05, 2025 : Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday categorically rejected India’s attempts to implicate Pakistan in the recent Pahalgam attack without providing any credible evidence, and reiterated his call for an impartial international investigation into the incident — inviting the United Kingdom to join the proposed probe.

The statement came during a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, at the Prime Minister’s House, according to a press release issued by the PM Office Media Wing.

In the meeting, the prime minister shared Pakistan’s perspective on the rapidly evolving security situation in South Asia in the wake of the April 22 attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, which left 26 people dead. India has accused Pakistan of involvement — a claim Islamabad has strongly denied.

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan remained committed to peace and would never take any step that could destabilize regional security. He noted that his government’s top priority was to drive economic growth and development, with support from international partners including the UK.

He urged the United Kingdom, which maintains cordial ties with both Islamabad and New Delhi, to use its diplomatic influence to help defuse tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

“The UK has an important role to play in promoting calm and supporting efforts for a neutral and credible investigation,” the prime minister said, underscoring Pakistan’s openness to international scrutiny.

In response, High Commissioner Marriott thanked the prime minister for sharing Pakistan’s position and assured that the United Kingdom would continue to work closely with both Pakistan and India to preserve regional peace and stability.

The meeting came as part of Islamabad’s broader diplomatic outreach aimed at countering India’s narrative and building international consensus around the need for dialogue and impartial investigation into the Kashmir-linked violence.
