PESHAWAR: U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker visited Consul General Tom Eckert and the staff of the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar to commemorate the longstanding partnership between the United States and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mark the closure of the diplomatic mission, and pay tribute to the dedication and service of its personnel.

During the visit, Baker underscored the enduring ties between the United States and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to maintaining strong and constructive engagement with the province despite the closure of the consulate.

She said the United States remains firmly committed to its partnership with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will continue working closely with the province’s people and leadership to advance areas of mutual interest.

Baker announced that responsibility for diplomatic engagement with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will now be assumed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Unit (KPU) at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, ensuring uninterrupted diplomatic outreach and sustained cooperation with provincial officials and local communities.

The visit also served as an opportunity to recognise the contributions of the consulate’s diplomats and locally employed staff, whose efforts over the years have played an important role in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering cooperation between the United States and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The transition marks the end of the U.S. Consulate General’s presence in Peshawar while reaffirming Washington’s commitment to maintaining lasting engagement with the people and institutions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.
