TİKA, University of the Punjab and Yıldız Technical University sign tripartite protocol to advance AI education, research and innovation

LAHORE: Türkiye and Pakistan have taken a significant step towards strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence with the signing of a tripartite protocol between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the University of the Punjab (PU) and Yıldız Technical University.

The agreement will advance education, research and innovation in human-centred artificial intelligence, an approach that places human needs, ethical principles, trust and broader social benefit at the heart of technological development.

Under the initiative, the advanced AI Laboratory established by TİKA at the University of the Punjab will serve as a platform for joint research, academic training, postgraduate studies and innovative projects.

The laboratory is also expected to strengthen knowledge and expertise exchange between Türkiye and Pakistan, creating new opportunities for researchers, academics and students to collaborate in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

The partnership reflects the growing emphasis on responsible and people-oriented AI development. TİKA describes its international cooperation model as people-centred and focused on sustainable solutions tailored to the needs of partner countries.

Yıldız Technical University, meanwhile, has identified artificial intelligence, digitalization and interdisciplinary research among its strategic areas, with its Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering focusing on research and development across emerging AI technologies.

The newly established laboratory at PU is expected to become an important academic and research hub for joint Türkiye–Pakistan initiatives in AI.

The facility will be officially inaugurated soon, marking another milestone in bilateral cooperation in education, science, technology and innovation.
