“Three brotherly nations united by faith, friendship and shared resolve; PM appreciates Field Marshal Asim Munir’s key contribution to landmark agreement”
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has described the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as a historic milestone, saying the pact would serve as a “shield of peace” for generations to come.
In a post on his official X account, the Prime Minister said he was honoured to sign the agreement alongside Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“Three brotherly nations, united by faith, friendship and a shared resolve for peace and security,” the Prime Minister said.
He expressed hope that the historic agreement, signed in the shadow of the Haramain, would contribute to lasting peace and bring prosperity to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the wider Muslim Ummah.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed his special appreciation for Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, acknowledging his “untiring efforts and utmost dedication” which, he said, contributed immensely to the achievement.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed on August 7, 2026, during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence at Al-Safa Palace. The agreement provides for enhanced defence cooperation among the three countries and establishes a collective security framework under which an armed attack against any one of the three states is regarded as an attack against all.
