WASHINGTON, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (WNP): The United States has indicated that the next round of talks related to Iran is likely to be held in Islamabad, while strongly appreciating Pakistan’s role as a key mediator in the ongoing negotiations.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, addressing reporters, dismissed reports suggesting that Washington had formally requested an extension of the ceasefire. “I saw some reporting that we had formally requested an extension of this ceasefire. That is not true. We remain engaged in these negotiations,” she said.
She added that the next round of discussions “will likely be held in Islamabad,” highlighting Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue.
The Press Secretary emphasized that Pakistan has been central to the negotiation process, describing its efforts as “incredible.” She said the US deeply values Pakistan’s friendship and its commitment to helping bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion.
“The Pakistanis have been incredible mediators throughout this process and we really appreciate their friendship and their efforts to bring this deal to a close,” she stated.
Underscoring Islamabad’s unique role, she noted that Pakistan is the only mediator in the negotiations, despite offers from multiple countries to assist. She added that the US President considers it important to streamline communication through Pakistan to ensure consistency and effectiveness in the process.
Officials say the development reflects growing international confidence in Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and its ability to facilitate constructive dialogue amid complex regional dynamics.
