MUNICH: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDF) of Pakistan, visited Germany from February 12 to 14 to participate in high-level engagements held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
During the 62nd edition of the globally recognised security forum in Munich, the COAS held a series of meetings with international leaders and senior defence officials, focusing on global and regional security dynamics, counterterrorism cooperation and bilateral defence relations.
Among his key engagements was a meeting with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including evolving geopolitical challenges, regional stability and avenues for enhanced counterterrorism collaboration.
AS PART OF HIS INTERACTIONS WITH GERMAN AUTHORITIES, FIELD MARSHAL MUNIR CALLED ON ALEXANDER DOBRINDT, FEDERAL MINISTER OF THE INTERIOR OF GERMANY; GÜNTER SAUTTER, FOREIGN AND SECURITY POLICY ADVISOR TO THE GERMAN FEDERAL CHANCELLOR; AND GENERAL CARSTEN BREUER, CHIEF OF DEFENCE OF THE FEDERAL ARMED FORCES OF GERMANY.
The discussions centred on contemporary security challenges, strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and the importance of promoting global peace and stability through sustained bilateral and multilateral dialogue.
On the sidelines of the conference, the COAS also met Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, where both sides explored opportunities to enhance bilateral military cooperation.
In a separate engagement, General Rodolph Haykal, Commander of the Armed Forces of the Lebanon, called on Field Marshal Munir. The meeting reviewed the prevailing global and regional security environment and discussed measures to further strengthen defence collaboration between the two countries.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit underscores Pakistan’s continued commitment to constructive international engagement and its role in promoting regional stability and cooperative security frameworks through dialogue and partnership.
